The Normalcy of Nervousness
The First Day

It’s a Monday morning and I just wanted to say “Hi” and introduce myself. We are starting this venture together and that’s kind of a big deal. Starting something new is almost always scary, and I can acknowledge that. Even as a mental health counselor I get nervous, anxious and even fearful. That fear is used to protect us and came from our primitive ancestors who were literally in a state of live or die, feast or famine. It’s ok for me and you to take a moment and breathe. We can identify what it is about this change that makes us afraid. Oftentimes there are layers to that answer: the obvious answer, the answer that we came up with provocative thought and then the root answer that usually takes digging and exploration.
I want to use this platform to take you on a journey through creative and psychoeducational writing which will help us explore personal growth, mental health and healing. Whether we adopt each other as therapist and client or not, I want you to know that you are deeply cared for. If you want to drop me a note, please feel free to message or email me directly with thoughts you have.
Sometimes, we like to pretend we are tough and can do life alone. You have permission and are encouraged to have community on this walk. Let’s not be alone, let’s do this together. Summer is coming to an end, leaves will begin dropping, school is starting back up and work is changing gears. Let’s start this week and this season off with a feeling of curiosity, wonder and hope.
Take good care,
Alexandra
